Why the Name Silver Birch?

Silver birch trees are known for resilience, adaptability, and renewal. They are often among the first to grow after disruption, creating the conditions for new growth to follow.

At Silver Birch Wellness, this reflects how therapy is approached. People develop patterns for a reason, often shaped by stress, trauma, or life experience. These patterns are not failures—they are adaptations. Therapy focuses on understanding those adaptations and helping them shift so that something new can take root.

This approach is grounded in the belief that people are not broken—they have adapted. With the right support, those patterns can change.

At Silver Birch Wellness, this perspective shapes the use of EMDR and other patient-centered approaches to support meaningful, lasting change.

Regina Lee-Carter, LISW-CP

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated that insight alone hasn’t led to change. I believe the focus is not on fixing what is “wrong,” but on understanding the patterns that developed for a reason—and helping things shift so change can feel possible and lasting.  This work is often grounded in a trauma-informed, pattern-focused approach that moves beyond coping and toward meaningful change.  For the client, therapy feels structured, intentional, and focused on helping create understanding.  Together we work to interrupt the unhealthy patterns.

I received my Masters in Social Work from USC-Columbia in 2012 and now practice as an LISW-CP, at Silver Birch Wellness in Sumter, SC providing patient-centered counseling services to ages ranging from 6 and older.  Outside of traditional treatment modalities, I am specially trained in EMDR and trauma-informed therapy and Gottman Method and Prepare and Enrich for Couples.

Outside of sessions, I value quiet, reflection, and time to reset—something I encourage clients to create space for as well.
